Joseph D. Hicks, Sr., 94, of Milesburg passed away at Eagle Valley Personal Care Home on Saturday, March 26, 2022. Joe was born in Boggs Twp., Centre Co. on March 17, 1928, the son of the late Howard J. and Edna G. (Kelley) Hicks. On August 6, 1947 he married the former Estella J. (Leathers) Hicks who survives at Eagle Valley Personal Care Home. Along with his wife, he is survived by his children, Susan (Paul) Thomas of Northeast, MD, Joseph D. (Maxine) Hicks, Jr. of Bridgeport, OH, Pam Hommel, Fawn Grove, PA, Yvonne (Doug) Harmon of Greenfield, OH; his sister, Anna Powers of Oklahoma City, OK and his 13 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren. Along with his parents he was preceded in death by his siblings, Myron Hicks, Jane Corman, Donald Hicks, Ada Catherman, Richard Hicks and his son-in-law, Dan Hommel.


Joe was a member of Eagle Heights Bible Church and God’s Missionary Church. He had an enormous personal relationship with Jesus. He lived his life for God. He loved his family. He loved to build, create and invent things in his spare time and enjoyed his Gravely tractors. He could build anything he needed to fix or repair around the house. Camping was a big part of his life and he enjoyed fishing, hiking and spending time outdoors. He was known by many as a great problem solver. He was gifted to the point that he looked at a blueprint, he could build it mechanically. Joe was know for his ingenuity in his woodworking and metal working. Joe was a person with an impeccable character.


Visitation and funeral service have been changed to a private service and will be held at the convenience of the family.


Burial will be in Centre County Memorial Park, College Twp., Centre Co., PA.
