Lawrence M. “Larry” Levy, 97, of State College, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 11, 2021 at Harmony in State College. Born on July 30, 1923 in Brooklyn, NY, he was the son of the late Albert and Molly (Zoshinsky) Levy. In London, England on May 8, 1945, he married Ethel Visokle, who survives at home.

Larry enlisted with the United States Army in June of 1942 in New York, NY. He earned the rank of Sergeant and was awarded the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with 1 Silver and 1 Bronze Star and the Good Conduct Medal prior to his honorable discharge in September of 1945 at Fort Dixon, NJ. After his enlistment, He co-owned Larry and Jack’s Hardware Store with his brother in-law. Larry then became an optician and had his own practice, Bellerose Optical, in Bellerose, NY.

Larry was of the Jewish faith. While living in Florida, he was an active member of the Volunteer Marine Patrol Unit of Delray Beach Police Department until 2011, where he devoted numerous hours of his tenure to being the “eyes and ears” for the agency. He enjoyed fishing and would take part in the program for veterans offered by the Spring Creek Chapter, Trout Unlimited in Port Matilda. The program they offered for veterans meant a lot to him. He enjoyed working with stained glass and photography in his spare time. He was honored with a Quilt of Valor, that he treasured. He was a loving man with a smile that would light up a room.

Along with his wife, Larry is survived by one son, David Levy and his wife, JoAnn, of Massapequa, NY; one daughter, Susan Kennedy and her husband, Dan, of Port Matilda; one daughter in-law, Cari Fershing of New York, NY; two granddaughters, Jennifer Anne Kennedy of Santa Fe, NM and Anna Fershing Levy of New York, NY; two step grandsons, Jonathan Eugenio of Massapequa, NY and Doug Kennedy of Farmington, NM; and one step granddaughter, Paula Hart of Helena, AL.

Along with his parents, Larry was preceded in death by one son, Robert Alan Levy and one sister, Rhoda Goldstein.

All services will be private. Funeral services will be officiated by Rabbi Sam Yolen. Larry will be laid to rest at the Indiantown Gap National Cemetery in Annville, with military honors.
