Marie L. (Hassinger) Shaffer, formerly of Spring Mills, passed away April 7, 2026, at Centre Care in Bellefonte.  Born June 8, 1944, in Bellefonte, Marie was a daughter of the late Donald K. and Louise T. (Barrett) Hassinger.  She was a graduate of Bellefonte Area High School.

Marie had been the proprietor of the Potters Mills General Store at one time.  She was last employed as a salesclerk at the former McClanahan’s drugstore.

Marie was an avid horsewoman.  She loved riding horses and owned several in her lifetime.  She participated in several area rodeos in her younger years.  Marie was a lifetime member of the ladies auxiliary of the Bellefonte VFW.  She enjoyed camping at the Grange Fair, and spending time with her dog Cuddles and cat Little Max.  Most of all, Marie loved the time she spent with her family, especially fishing with her grandchildren in the private stream that flowed through her backyard that she had stocked with fish especially for them.

Marie is survived by two daughters, Jannette Houtz (Wayne) of Bellefonte and Suzanne Moyer (Gene) of Spring Mills: one son, Max Brown (Diane) of Spring Mills and two siblings, Molly DeArmitt of Pleasant Gap and James Hassinger (Patty) of Pittsburgh.  Also surviving are seven grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren and one great great grandson.  Marie was preceded in death by one son Jesse Paul Shaffer and one brother, Donald B. Hassinger.

Family and friends will be received on Monday, April 13, 2026, from 10-11 am at Steven R. Neff Funeral Home in Millheim.  The funeral will follow at 11:00 am with Pastor Michael Covalt officiating.  Marie will be laid to rest in Zion Cemetery in Zion, PA.  Because of Marie’s love for animals, contributions in her memory may be given to Pets Come First, 2451 General Potter Hwy, Centre Hall, PA 16828.
