Nancy L. Ulmer, 84, of Bellefonte, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Monday, December 28, 2020. On August 9, 1936, she was born and raised in Sugar Valley in the small village of Loganton, PA. She was the daughter of the late David E. and Hilda (Zimmerman) Jeffries. On September 21, 1958, she married the love of her life, Bruce E. Ulmer, who preceded her to Heaven’s gates in 1998.
Nancy is survived by three sons, Daniel E. Ulmer (Penny), Michael J. Ulmer (Kathy), and Thomas “Ted” Ulmer; two daughters, Karen L. Yorke, and Barbara A. Bierlein (David); 23 grandchildren; and 18 great grandchildren.
Nancy is also survived by her brother Thomas Jeffries (Shirley), her sister, Linda Laetz (John), her sister in-law, Eunice Jeffries, and many nieces and nephews.
Along with her husband and parents, Nancy was preceded in death by her grandson, Jonathan David Yorke; two brothers, Donell and D. Jacob “Jake” Jeffries, and her sister in-law Eleanor Jeffries.
Nancy was a 1954 graduate of Sugar Valley High School. After high school, she attended and graduated from Williamsport Nursing School, earning her RN degree. She worked at the Williamsport Hospital and the Jersey Shore Hospital. During one of her shifts at Jersey Shore Hospital, she met an amazing patient, who eventually became her husband, her beloved Bruce. After her nursing career, she continued her nursing skills with her family, friends, and neighbors. Prior to moving to Bellefonte, Nancy’s family spent 17 years dairy farming in Cogan Station, Pennsylvania.
Nancy was a faithful and devoted member of the Calvary Bible Church in Centre Hall. She was a powerful prayer warrior for family and friends and faithfully studied God’s Word. Because of her love and concern for the Lord’s Great Commission, she and Bruce were inspired to support missionaries dispersed throughout the world. She was involved in Woman’s Ministries and enjoyed teaching young children in Sunday School.
Nancy wore many hats in life. She was a devoted farm wife, mother, homemaker, gardener, seamstress, fabulous cook, and possessed many other skill sets in life. She was known for her witty humor, conversation, knowledge of family history, and stories about everyday life. She was an accomplished pianist, organist, and vocalist. She played for churches, weddings, funerals, and for personal enjoyment throughout her life. It is safe to say, Nancy will be forever loved and greatly missed by all those that knew her.
A visitation will be held at the Calvary Bible Church in Centre Hall on Saturday, January 2, 2021 from 10 am – 12 noon. The funeral service will immediately follow at 12 noon with Pastor Rick Gilbaugh officiating. Nancy will be privately laid to rest next to her husband at Centre County Memorial Park.
