Carolyn Daughenbaugh Smith of Sarasota, FL, passed away on October 14, 2017 at Sarasota Memorial Hospital at the age of 76.

Carolyn was born in Lock Haven, PA, April 19,1941. She was a graduate of Renovo High School, Class of 1958. She played clarinet in the high school band, piano in the high school orchestra, and was a majorette in the school marching band, in addition to other clubs and activities.

After graduation, Carolyn attended Strayer Business College in Washington, D.C., subsequently working for the General Services Administration, the Federal Water Quality Administration, which later became the Environmental Protection Agency, the Department of Health and Human Services and spent the last 23 years working as a Small Business Specialist and a Grants and Contracts Specialist for the National Science Foundation. After retirement Carolyn served on the Board of Directors for the Department of Aging in Jefferson County, West Virginia, and also enjoyed teaching arts and crafts classes through a local community college as well as volunteering for the AARP Tax Aid Program in West Virginia and in Maryland, later serving as an ombudsman for the Maryland Department of Aging. She was also very active in the Homemakers organizations in both West Virginia and Maryland.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her husband Wayne Smith of Weaverville, CA; her parents, Thomas and Marjorie Daughenbaugh; a sister Candace Daughenbaugh Barrett, and a brother Jerry Daughenbaugh. She is survived by a sister, Joan Daughenbaugh of Sarasota, FL; three children, Linda Walker and Debbie Hayes of Annapolis, MD, and Jim Klopfer of Sarasota, FL; and one granddaughter, Julia Walker of Annapolis, MD, a recent Penn State Graduate.

A private service will be held at Kader-Neff Funeral Home in Howard, PA, at the discretion of the family. Interment will be in Schencks Cemetery, Howard, PA.
