Dorothy M. “Dottie” Way, 97, of Bellefonte, passed away on Wednesday, January 31, 2018 at Centre Crest Nursing Home in Bellefonte. Born on January 21, 1921, in Port Trevorton, PA, she was the daughter of the late Anson and Ottilla Herrold Mitterling. On March 25, 1945, in Port Trevorton, she married Veris C. Way. Veris passed away on May 16, 1997.

Dottie was a homemaker most of her life. She worked a brief time at Penn State in the Housing Department and was a cook at the J & L Restaurant for 10 years. She was a faithful member of the Gray’s United Methodist Church in Stormstown, where she taught Sunday School for many years.

Dottie was an excellent cook and enjoyed cooking for others. She grew up on a farm, so she learned to garden at an early age and continued gardening throughout her life. She loved her family and spending time with them, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She volunteered at the Country Christian Preschool for several years.

Dottie always had a smile and never complained. She was loved by many and will be missed by all that knew her.

Dottie is survived by her two sons; Ronald V. Way and his wife, Nancy, of Bellefonte and Gary L. Way and his wife, Adora, of Spring Mills, four grandchildren; Ellie Metzger (Ron), Aaron Way (Dana), Braden Way (Kim) and Derek Way (Jenny) and five great grandchildren; Mikayla, Gavin, Sophia, Robert, and Andrew. She is also survived by one brother, Guy Mitterling and his wife, Mary, of Selinsgrove.

Along with her parents and husband, Dottie was preceded in death by two brothers; Russell Mitterling and Elwood Mitterling, and one sister, Ruth Bottiger.

Visitation will be on Monday, February 5, 2018 from 3-4pm at the Daughenbaugh Funeral Home in Centre Hall. Funeral services will follow at 4pm at the funeral home with Pastor Renee Ford officiating. Private burial will be at Gray’s Cemetery in Stormstown.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Gray’s United Methodist Church, 5687 Buffalo Run Rd, Port Matilda, PA 16870.
