Edward A. Keene, 94, of State College, died Tuesday, November 11, 2014, at Elmcroft in State College.
He was born May 27, 1920 in Baltimore, MD; a son of the late Edward and Lillian Doegan Keene.
On June 15, 1956, he married Dorothy M. Moss who survives in State College.
After Graduating from high school, Mr. Keene served in the Army Air Force with the 1386th Base Unit Air Transport Corps, earning the rank of Staff, Sergeant. He earned a European African Middle Eastern Service Medal, a Good Conduct Medal, an American Service Medal and a World War II Victory Medal for his service in World War II.
Early in life Edward was employed as a shipping manger at the Calmar Steam Ship Division of Bethlehem Steel in Philadelphia, and later was employed by ITO as a safety and insurance manager, retiring from that position in 1986.
Mr. Keene attended Grace Lutheran Church in State College, and was a member of the Free and Accepted Masonic Lodge 543, Fernwood, PA. He was a Phillies Baseball fan, and an avid Eagles Football fan, having attended their 1960 championship Game, which was the equivalent of today’s super bowl; and enjoyed Penn State Football. An avid reader he especially enjoyed mysteries and thrillers. The thing he enjoyed most was “driving his loving wife crazy.”
Surviving Mr. Keene is one daughter, Karen L. Mann (Frank) of Colorado; two sons Kevin E. Keene of Frazer, PA and Robert W. Keene (Flynn) of Mendota, IL; four grandchildren,, Kilian, Hall, Caty, and Krueger; and two brothers, Warren Keene (Betty Jane) of Greenfield, Pa and Milton Keene of Florida.
Following his wishes, funeral services are private at the convenience of the family. Entombment will be in the Chapel Mausoleum at Centre county Memorial Park, State College, PA.
