George A. Auman, 90, of Springs Mills died Sunday, Sept. 27, 2009, in State College.
He was born May 24, 1919, in Gregg Township. He was the son of the late Mervin and Roby Vonada Auman. On June 20, 1949, he married Josephine G. Guisewhite, who preceded him in death Oct. 8, 1998. George was a former heavy equipment operator, a mechanic and owner of George A. Auman Garage in Spring Mills until his retirement .
George loved the outdoors, farming for many years. He had a great affection for gardening. He could grow anything and probably had at one point. He took great pride in the "family" garden and provided many potatoes, watermelons, and squash to his family and friends. He enjoyed reading his Lancaster paper. He was always ready with one of his stories. He believed in hard work. He was always there when the ladies of his family needed him, and that was a lot.
He will be greatly missed by his daughter, Mae E. Marquardt (Auman) and granddaughters Audrey Neese and her husband, Dave, and Vickie Sasserman and her husband, Warren; great-grandchildren Jason Neese and Jessica Neese and fiancŽ Clint Buck, Haley Sasserman, Hanna Sasserman, Chloe Sasserman, and Madelin Sasserman and a great-great-grandchild Owen Buck, fondly known by his Pa Pa as "Little Buck." Also surviving is a sister-in-law Jennie Auman. He was preceded in death by a sister, Edna Yarnell; two brothers, Walter and Clair (Pete) Auman.
Visitation will be held from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 29, 2009, at the Steven R. Neff Funeral Home, 120 W. Main St. in Millheim. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 29, 2009, at the funeral home, with the Revs. Darrell Smucker and K. R. Meley officiating. Burial will be held at the Green Grove Cemetery in Spring Mills.
