Hazel Elizabeth Emery, “Sis” to her family and many friends, passed away on Saturday, May 12, 2012. Her kind and generous heart tired from a long, but brave battle with heart disease is at final rest.

Hazel was born on May 25, 1938 in Centre Hall, the daughter of Howard Edward Emery and Myra Elizabeth Lucas. She would have been 74 years old this month.

For many years, she worked in the family store, Emery’s Market in Centre Hall. She later worked for 16 years at the North Atherton Street Giant Store in State College.

She enjoyed visiting with friends and neighbors, family holiday dinners, and time spent with family. Although never a parent, she enjoyed visits from the neighbors who brought their children and pets. Also, when working at the Giant Store, many customers had a special fondness for her.

As a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Centre Hall, she attended church until her health caused her to become homebound. She continued to live in the family home after caring for her parents until they both passed away.

Hazel will be sadly missed by her sister, Evelyn Emery Yost, her brother-in-law, Ronald Yost of Centre Hall; and her niece, Cynthia Anne Yost and her life partner, Dennis Marro of San Jose, CA.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 15, 2012 from 7-9 PM at the Mark D. Heintzelman Funeral and Cremation Services, 226 S. Pennsylvania Ave., Centre Hall.

During a private family service, she will be laid to final rest, next to her parents, at the Reformed and Lutheran Cemetery in Centre Hall, with the Reverend Kenneth Litwiller officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be give to the Women’s Group of Grace United Methodist Church, c/o Jane Taylor, 127 S. Pennsylvania Ave., P.O. Box 292, Centre Hall, PA 16828 or to Comfort and Love Hospice, c/o Janie Burnes, Centre Crest Auxiliary, 502 E. Howard St., Bellefonte, PA 16823.
