Helen E. Viehdorfer, 79, of Snow Shoe, went to be with the Lord after a short battle with cancer on Sunday, October 3, 2010. Born on October 26, 1930, in Snow Shoe, at home, she was the daughter of the late Marlin F. and Anna Prebosky Watson. On October 10, 1952, she married Hugh K Viehdorfer who died in June 2005.
Helen was a 1948 graduate from Snow Shoe High School. She worked for J.H. France and then at R.S. Carlin Coal Co. as a secretary for many years, retiring in 1993. After retirement, Helen worked as a secretary for David Spear Trucking Co for a short time. For that past several years, until her illness, she worked as a caregiver for the Comfort Keepers.
Helen was a member of the Snow Shoe United Methodist Church, where she held the office of Treasurer and Secretary. She was a member of the United Methodist Women’s Club, the Mountaintop Women’s Club, the Chairperson for the Mountaintop Food Bank, and was the Secretary for the Snow Show Borough Water Authority for many years. Helen loved to help others and in doing so, she volunteered at Mt. Nittany Medical Center, Centre Crest Nursing Home, Meals on Wheels, along with many other community organizations. She would help small business’ with their quarterly returns, and assisted with the issuing of doe licensing at the Centre County Court House.
Helen is survived by her two children; Marilyn J Butterworth and her husband, Stephen and Kerry H Viehdorfer and his wife, Wanda, both of Snow Shoe, by two sisters, Jean Bosak of Ohio and Carol Fetzer of Howard, by two brothers, Joseph Watson of Wingate and Clair Watson of Snow Shoe. Also Surviving Helen are her three grandchildren, Jared Butterworth, K. Duane Viehdorfer, and Kurtis J. Viehdorfer. She was preceded in death by one brother, Robert Watson and one granddaughter, Stephanie J. Butterworth.
A celebration of Helen’s life will be held on Tuesday, October 5, 2010 at 3pm, at the Snow Shoe United Methodist Church, 501 Moshannon Ave, Snow Shoe, with Pastor Cathy Dittman officiating. Burial will be at the family’s convenience in Askey Cemetery.
