Ilse Rudow Weyl, 98, of State College died on Oct. 29, 2009 at the Fairways. She was born in Berlin, Germany in 1911 to Otto and Bertha Kleiner Rudow. In October, 1937, she married Woldemar A. Weyl of Darmstadt, Germany. They immigrated to the United States in January, 1938 when Professor Weyl became a member of the Mineral Industries faculty at The Pennsylvania State College.
Surviving is one daughter, Karin G. Weyl, of Minneapolis, Minn. and three nephews, Ralph W. Lagally of Lafayette, Ind., Max G. Lagally of Madison, Wis. and Hermann O. Lagally of Greensburg. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Margarete Ruhland, of Hamburg, Germany, and Herta Lagally, of Annapolis, Md.
She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church. She was a homemaker who liked to cook and bake and enjoyed playing bridge, bowling and tending her extensive orchid collection. She loved to travel and a highlight was her husband's visiting professorship at American University in Cairo, Egypt in 1966-1967.
Burial will be private at Graysville Cemetery in Huntingdon County. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Glaucoma Service Foundation, Wills Eye Institute, 840 Walnut Street, Suite 1130, Philadelphia, PA 19107.
