John H. Dutrow, 84, of Centre Hall, died Friday, June 14, 2013, at Hearthside Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center in State College.
He was born September 9, 1928 in Potter Township, a son of the late John H. and Alice Heckman Dutrow.
On March 14, 1950, in Winchester, VA, he married Betty L. Sweeney who survives at the Wynwood House in Centre Hall.
John graduated from Centre Hall Potter High School where he was active and accomplished in sports, lettering in basketball, soccer, and baseball.
During the Korean War, Mr. Dutrow served two years of active duty and served with the 112th Air National Guard for four years.
A life member of St. Luke Lutheran Church in Centre Hall, he served on the church council.
John was employed at the Pennsylvania State University in the Animal and Dairy Science Division for thirty five years.
He devoted much of his life to farming, and until the past few years, enjoyed raising steers, and assisting his family with farming. He also enjoyed Penn State Football and Philadelphia Phillies Baseball.
Surviving in addition to his wife Betty, are two daughters, Teresa Grove and her husband Donald of Centre Hall and Corrine Bebout and her husband Thomas of Venetia; three grandchildren, Scott Bebout and his wife Liz, and Jennifer Bebout of Venetia, and Seth Grove and his wife Jessica of Spring Mills; and three great grandsons Caleb and Teague Bebout of Venetia, Jacob Grove of Spring Mills; a great granddaughter MacKenzie Grove of Spring Mills; and three brothers, Ray Dutrow and his wife Janet of Mifflinburg, Lynn Dutrow and his wife Mary Louise of Centre Hall, and Warren Dutrow and his wife Mona of Beaver Springs.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Geraldine Dashem and Hazel Rockey; and two brothers, Kenneth and Melvin Dutrow.
Friends will be received form 6 – 8 p.m. Sunday, June 16, 2013, at Mark D. Heintzelman Funeral and Cremation Service P. C. and from 1:00 p.m. Monday June 17, 2013, until the time of the service at St. Luke Lutheran Church 301 N. Pennsylvania Ave., Centre Hall. The funeral will begin at 2:00 p. m. at the church with the Reverend Russell L. Sauerwein officiating. Burial will follow in the Reformed and Lutheran Cemetery, Church St. Centre Hall.
