Edward Fetzer, 74, of Springhouse, Pa., went home to be with the Lord on Jan. 31, 2010, in Mercy Suburban Hospital, Norristown. Born in Harris Township, he was a son of the late Harry and Ella Fetzer.

An athlete, Mr. Fetzer played football as a halfback and also wrestled. He was a United States Navy veteran. Later he attended the University of Virginia. Still passionate about football, Mr. Fetzer was a diehard Penn State fan. He dearly appreciated his longtime friendship with high school classmate, William Whitehill. Later in life, Mr. Fetzer made a home, for five years, at the Silver Stream Nursing Center, Springhouse, surrounded by many loving and caring friends, both residents and staff, who were like family. For that, he and his family will be forever grateful. He especially enjoyed attending the activities. Activities director, Tricia, was very dear to him. Eddie, as he was known to those that loved him most, will be fondly remembered as a mild-mannered, kind soul.

Mr. Fetzer is survived by his son, Lance Fetzer and his wife, Sue; daughter, Lorraine Steinman, and her husband, Joel; grandchildren, Katelyn and Lauren Fetzer and Ben Steinman; and cousins, Tom Hoover and Mike Hoover.

Eddie will return to the Bellefonte area, a place where he grew up and that he loved dearly, to be laid to rest in Advent Cemetery. Services are private.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Silver Stream Nursing Center Activity Department, P.O. Box 397, Springhouse, Pa. 19477, Attn.: Activities Department. Arrangements by Betty Meier Steeley Funeral Home, Sellersville.
