Lewis L. Rearick, 87, of Spring Mills, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, Nov. 16, 2010, at his home.
Lewis, a son of the late Samuel W. and Bertha E. Korman Rearick was born in Gregg Township on Sept. 28, 1923. Lewis was a 1942 graduate of the East Penns Valley High School. On August 4, 1946 he married the love of his life, Lois L. Grove at her home in Gregg Township. Lewis' death breaks a union of 64 years spent together.
Lois survives at their home in Spring Mills. In addition to his wife, Lewis is survived by two sons, James B. Rearick (Brian Woodland), of Bellefonte, and Ralph L. Rearick (Terri), of Fort Wayne, Ind.; by three daughters, Kim I. Bonner (Chuck), of Orwigsburg, Kay M. Trostle (Kevin), of State College, and Amy J. Bowersox, (Candy Yekel), of Spring Mills; and by seven grandchildren, Michelle, Michael, Jonathan, Julia, Lindsay, Zane and Carrie. Also surviving is one great granddaughter, Finley, and one sister, Florence E. Rearick, of Millheim. Lewis was preceded in death by one sister, Sara J. Boop.
Lewis was a lifelong dairy and crop farmer. He had a love for working in the fields and tilling the soil. Lewis also raised poultry and dressed and sold chicken for 40 years. Lewis was a member of the St. John's United Church of Christ at Farmers Mills where he was long time Sunday School teacher. In the past few years when he was no longer able to do much, he became an avid reader, even renovating a bedroom to become a library. Lewis always enjoyed spending time with his family. His passing will leave an empty place in the hearts of his family and friends.
A visitation for family and friends will be held on Thursday, Nov. 18, 2010, from 7-9 p.m. at the Steven R. Neff Funeral Home in Millheim. Funeral services will be held on Friday, Nov. 19, 2010, at 11 a.m. at the St. John's Union Church in Farmers Mills with Rev. Michael Smith officiating. Lewis will be laid to rest in Farmers Mills Union Cemetery.
