Norma V. McCloskey, 89, formerly of Snow Shoe, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 21, 2017 at the Windy Hill Nursing Home in Philipsburg. Born on September 21, 1927 in Philipsburg, she was the daughter of the late Howard and Wilma Bumbarger Shimmel. On April 20, 1946, she married Wayne D. McCloskey, who passed away on December 10, 1985.

Norma attended the Wallaceton School. She was a member of the Snow Shoe Presbyterian Church before it’s closure. She was a homemaker.

Norma enjoyed reading her Bible and listening to music. She always had the radio playing. She enjoyed her birds and animals. Norma lead a simple life and loved the simple pleasures of this world.

Norma is survived by her four daughters; Judy Koleno and her husband, Edward, of Clarence, Cheryl McCloskey of Clarence, Betsy Brown and her husband, Pete, of DuBois, and Bonnie Brown and her husband, Walter, of Snow Shoe, her two sons; Richard McCloskey and Bryan McCloskey and his wife Sherry, both of Snow Shoe.

Also surviving are her five brothers; Clyde Shimmel and his wife, Francis, of York, Roger Shimmel and his wife, Dessa, of Wallaceton, Duane Shimmel and his wife, Gayle, of York, Marshall Shimmel and his wife, Dorcas, of York, and Stewart Shimmel and his wife, Wanee, of Florida, one sister, Jane Rothrock of Woodland, sister in-law, Peg Shimmel of Clearfield, 12 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.

Along with her parents and husband, Norma was preceded in death by one brother, John Shimmel, and two sisters; Audrey Mason and Dorothy Johnston.

Funeral services will be on Friday, March 24, 2017 at 11am at the Daughenbaugh Funeral Home in Snow Shoe, with Gary Jewart officiating. Burial will be in Askey Cemetery, Snow Shoe Twp. In accordance with Norma’s wishes, there will be no public visitation.
