Paul F. Sciabica, Sr. 90, of Bellefonte, passed away Thursday, Sept. 24, 2009 at Centre Crest Nursing Home.

Born on Jan. 29, 1919 in Bellefonte, he was the son of the late Frank Sciabica and Olivia Pilato. On Sept. 8, 1951 in Bellefonte, he married Margaret "Peg" Heverly who preceded him in death in 2001. He graduated from St. John the Evangelist Elementary School and attended the Bellefonte School System. Paul retired from Marblehead Lime in 1981.

He was a life member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Bellefonte. Paul was a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge#1094, the Bellefonte Veterans of Foreign Wars Post#1600, the Bellefonte American Legion Post# 33, and the Bellefonte Coffee Club.

Paul was a Veteran who served in the United States Navy during WWII and the Korean Conflict. For his services he received the Victory Medal, Asiatic Pacific 9 Stars, and Philippine Liberation 1 Star.

He is survived by four children, Paul F. Sciabica, Jr. and his wife Joy, of New York City, Julia S. Gibboney and her husband Stephen, of Huntingdon, Thomas G. and his wife Mary, of Williamsport, and Sister Lila Marie Sciabica, I.H.M., of Carbondale, Pa. Also surviving are 3 sisters, Jenny McGowan, of Virginia, Grace DeHass, of Ohio, and Mary Shultz, of Bellefonte; by four grandchildren, Tara Ormsby and her husband Brian, of Petersburg, Pa, Justin B., of West Lafayette, Ind., Tyler J. Gibboney, of Huntingdon, and Sophia L. Sciabica, of New York City; and two great grandchildren, Madisyn Ormsby and Carlee Ormsby both, of Petersburg. Along with his parents and wife he was preceded in death by a son, Dennis Sciabica, four brothers, and four sisters.

A public visitation held on Sunday, Sept. 27, 2009 at Wetzler Funeral Service, Inc at 206 N. Spring Street, Bellefonte from 6-8 p.m. with a Christian wake service at 8 p.m. with Deacon Thomas Boldin officiating. A mass of Christian burial will be held on Monday, Sept. 28, 2009 at 10 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Bellefonte with Father Neil R. Dadey officiating. Interment will follow at St. John's Catholic Cemetery in Bellefonte. Memorial contributions may be made to St. John's Catholic Church School at 116 E. Bishop Street, Bellefonte, PA 16823.
