Richard E. “Dick” McCauley, 77 of Howard, passed away Wednesday, December 24, 2014 at the Mount Nittany Medical Center in State College. He was born in Lock Haven, Pa. on March 11, 1937 the son of the late Miles Herbert & Florence May (Phillips) McCauley.

He married Darla Jo (Gillespie) McCauley on August 18, 1962.

Dick was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting and fishing at fish camp. He also enjoyed football, basketball and baseball both college and professional. He attended all of the Howard Hawks baseball games. He enjoyed woodworking and making furniture.

He and his wife shared an interest in Civil War and World War II History, trains, and travel.

Dick was a contractor sales rep. for Clasters, Agway and retired from Lezzer Lumber. After retirement, he transported Amish to and from work and also did private driving.

He lived in Howard from the age of nine with his Uncle William and Aunt Evelyn Phillips. He was a 1954 graduate of Howard High School where he was well known in high school athletics. He was the quarterback of the football team and captain of the basketball and baseball teams. He proudly served his country in the United States Army and Army Reserves from 1960 – 1966. He was a Sgt. E5 in the Signal Corp. He served in Germany during the Berlin Crisis.

He was member of the Bellefonte Lodge #268 Free and Accepted Masons, Williamsport Consistory, Centre Co. Shrine Club of the Jaffa Temple, Altoona.

He was also a member of the Centre Co. Builders Association, Habitat for Humanity, and served as captain of the Brownson Bowling team.

Dick was a member of the Howard Christan Church.

Along with his wife, he is survived by two sons; R. Brian (Tina) McCauley of Bellefonte & Shawn Phillips McCauley of Spring Mills, four grandchildren; Shawn Phillips McCauley Jr. who he raised since five years old, Morgan Phillips McCauley, Madison Kay McCauley, and Mason Robert McCauley. He is also survived by three sisters; Doris Schmidt and Edith (Robert) Wagner both of Lock Haven, and Linda McNamara of Howard, two brothers; Glenn and Elizabeth McCauley of Cincinatti, Ohio and Terry and LInda McCauley of Jersey Shore.

He was preceded by a sister; Betty Counsil and two brothers; Edwin and Larry McCauley.

As per his reguest funeral services and burial will be private at the Kader-Neff Funeral Home with Rev. Charles W. “Chuck” Salmon officiating. Burial will be at the Hublersburg Cemetery with military honors.

He will be greatly missed by those who loved him.
