Richard (Sonny) G. Hocking, 81, of Centre Hall, died Friday, January 15, 2010, at Mt. Nittany Medical Center at State College.
He was born May 29, 1928 in Detroit, Michigan; a son of the late Richard H. and Erma Annabelle Durkee Hocking.
On May 12, 1951, he married Bella M. Johnson who preceded him in death on September 16, 1994.
Richard was employed at Cerro Metals of Bellefonte for nearly forty years. He worked as a set up person and machine operator.
Mr. Hocking was dedicated to and respected by his family. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and spending time in the out of doors. Mechanically inclined and gifted, he also enjoyed building and repairing things especially working with cars. As a talented musician who played several instruments, he played in various bands, and was always delighted when he could gather with other musicians and play older style country music.
Richard is survived by a daughter Dianne L. Hocking of Tyrone; a son Jonathan Hocking of Centre Hall; five grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and wife he was preceded in death by a daughter Debra Hocking-Zook August 31, 1995.
A memorial service will be held at 3:30 p. m. Wednesday, January 20, 2010 at Mark D. Heintzelman Funeral and Cremation Service, 226 S. Pennsylvania Ave. Centre Hall, PA. Burial will follow in the Reformed and Lutheran Cemetery, West Church St., Centre Hall, PA.
