Obituary of Robert 'Bob' Ginter, 64

Robert Clark Ginter died on Thursday, May 24, 2018, at Eagle Valley Personal Care in Milesburg. He was 64 years old.

Bob was the son of Frances Irene Sholl Ginter, who died May 20, 2013, and William Charles Ginter, who died September 12, 1987.

He is survived by his sister, Ellen Ginter Solt, and her husband Rodney Solt, Sr., of Unionville, their son Rodney Solt, Jr., his wife Nicole, and their son Illian. He was preceded in death by his grandparents Harry Winton Ginter, Mary Gingher Ginter, John Ira Sholl, Ophelia Haupt Sholl, all of Milesburg. His good dog, Charles George, died in 1982.

He was a member of the Milesburg United Methodist Church.

Bob graduated in 1971 from the Bellefonte High School and in 1975 from Penn State with a degree in History.

He worked at Catherman’s Mobil in Milesburg during college. He was a substitute teacher for 26 years in Bald Eagle Area, Philipsburg, Penns Valley, Bellefonte, and State College schools, grades K-12. He subbed many years for the Central Intermediate Unit, and eight years at the Centre County Vo-Tech School. Bob worked 14 seasons in the state parks; two seasons at Curwensville and 12 seasons in the campground at Black Moshannon. He also worked part-time at Lowe’s in State College for five years.

Bob likes the Pirates and the Steelers. A good day was a trip to Pittsburgh to see a double header with his father, Dag.

He watched Xena, Galactica, Dr. Who, and never missed one episode of any variety of Star Trek.

Bob was a model railroader, railfan, and a railroad photographer for many years. He belonged to the Nittany Valley Model Railroad Club for 25 years, the Clinton Central for 22 years, was a founding member of the Middle Division NTRAK group in 1994, serving as treasurer and newsletter editor for most of its 16 years of existence. Bob belonged to the National Model Railroad Association, Mid-Central Region, Division Eleven, since 2000. His monthly humor column was published about 50 times. He had over 250 locomotives and thousands of freight cars in four scales.

Bob’s home railroad was the Podunk & Central, named after Camp Podunk, built by his grandfather Sholl in 1933.

He travelled to 46 states and much of Canada to ride over seventy different tourist railroads or to see the local sights. He had 13,000+ Amtrak miles.

Bob filled dozens of albums with prints and amassed over 20,000 35mm slides, most of which he took himself. Some were published nationally.

There will be a public viewing held on Wednesday, May 30, 2018 from 12-2pm at Wetzler Funeral Service, Inc. at 206 N. Spring Street, Bellefonte. Funeral Services will immediately follow at 2pm at the funeral home with Rev. Calvin Miller officiating. Burial will follow at Union Cemetery in Bellefonte.
