Shirley Wert Meck, 78, of Pennsylvania Furnace, died Thursday, May 06, 2010, at Bon Secour Hospital in Altoona.
Born Oct. 30, 1931, in Pine Grove, she was a daughter of the late Oliver and Nora Achenbach Wert. On August 25, 1956, she married Charles R. Meck, who survives. Shirley was a 1949 graduate of Pine Grove High School and attended Ford Business School in Pottsville. She worked for 15 years at Penn State as a secretary in continuing Education and in the College of Agriculture. She lived in Pennsylvania Furnace for the past 37 years and was formerly from Dallas and East McKeesport. She was a member of State College Presbyterian Church. Shirley always lived her life around her husband and children. She loved her trips to see her children and grandchildren as well as her trips out to Ariz.
Along with her husband, she is survived by two children, Lynne Meck Nowaczek and her husband, Richard, of Hillsboro, N.J., and Bryan Meck and his wife, Julie, of Palmyra, N.Y.; three grandchildren, Lauren Nowaczek, Matthew Nowaczek and Pierce Meck, and seven nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her sister.
Visitation will be Sunday, May 9, from 1-3 p.m. at Koch Funeral Home, 2401 S. Atherton St., State College. Funeral services will be Monday, May 10, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with the Reverend Dr. Charles J. Curley officiating. Burial will be in Centre County Memorial Park.
