Obituary of Susan Swales, 81

Susan K. (Kirk) Swales, 81, a resident of State College, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 26th, 2018. Born on November 28th, 1936, in Kylertown, she was the daughter of Robert and Mildred Kirk. On June 9th, 1956, she married Matley J. Swales of Morrisdale, who preceded her in death on December 16th, 2010. Sue was a 1954 graduate of Cooper Township High School and was a member of the Delta Omega Rho Sorority at Grove City College.

Sue enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, bird watching and spending time at the beach. She also enjoyed time with her friends and family. She loved living in State College and being part of the Penn State community. Sue was also interested in current events and politics.

She is survived by sons, Kirk Swales and his wife, Mona, of Avon, OH; Brad Swales and his wife, Jacqui, of Doylestown; and Rob Swales of Fayetteville. She is also survived by grandchildren, Jessica and Brooke Swales of Doylestown and Riley and Kyra Fiber of Saratoga Springs, NY; brother, Tom Kirk of Grassflat; and sister, Alice Fink of Pennsylvania Furnace.

In addition to her parents and husband, Sue was preceded in death by two daughters, Barbara Sue Swales and Jill Ann Fiber of Saratoga Springs, NY and brother, Bob Kirk of Grassflat.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday May 30th, 2018 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM immediately followed by the funeral service at noon at Koch Funeral Home, 2401 S. Atherton St., State College. Interment will be in the Grassflat Lanse Lutheran Cemetery, Clearfield County.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity close to her heart, the American Cancer Society, 1375 Martin St #206, State College, PA 16803.
