Thomas Joseph Prop 11/13/1947- 5/23/2018

Tom found physical peace on 5/23/2018. He was a State College, PA transplant from North Versailles, PA through the assistance of the GI Bill after a full honorable retirement from the Army in 1969- the height of the Vietnam War. He graduated in 1975 from The Pennsylvania State University and remained a Nittany Lion and PSU Vet representative throughout his life. Tom's belief in education, honor & duty complimented by his compassion for others and his abundant sense of humor made him a friend to all. Tom retired from the US Postal Service in 2013 after 30 years of employment and remained in State College until his last days.

In 1968 Tom was awarded the Bronze Star with Valor for heroism, bravery & devotion to duty. When he unit was sustaining heavy fire, Tom evacuated several men and received three gunshot wound to his legs, forever changing his life.

Tom remained an advocate for disabled Veterans and honors for Vietnam veterans throughout his life.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Helen & Henry Prop, and his brother David. Surviving are his brother James, of Maine and sister Mary A. Miller of North Carolina. While Tom had no children, he was loved and cherished by his 9 nieces and nephews, and adored the title Great Uncle Tom to their children.

Tom truly lived the Army motto: “this we'll defend” in all aspects of his life and will be honored with a Veteran's service at a service in the fall.

In lieu of contributions please thank a veteran and take care of them- those were his wishes.
