Wayne Robert King, 72, of Bellefonte, died Saturday Oct. 17, 2009 at Geisinger Medical Center, in Danville. Born May 10, 1937, in Bellefonte, he was the son of the late Roy and Louise Rhine King. On Nov. 21, 1959, he married Laura Faye Kocher, of Pine Grove Mills, who survives at home.
Wayne was a 1955 graduate of Bellefonte Area High School. He enlisted in the United States Navy for four years and was employed by the Pennsylvania Fish & Game Commission prior to his retirement. Wayne will always be remembered for his strong work ethic and taking great pride in everything he did. He always enjoyed family get-togethers and especially looked forward to taking trips to Erie to see his granddaughters and walking his black Labrador, Molly. He was a lifelong member of the VFW Post 1600 and Bellefonte Elks Lodge 1094. He was named Elk of the Year in 1998 and was very active in the Elks charitable projects. He was a 60 year member of the Valley View Rod and Gun Club located in Black Moshannon State Park where he shared his enjoyment of hunting and fishing with his late father, uncles, sons, and family.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Scott King and his companion, Tina, of State College, and Scott's three children, Derrick, Zachary, and Arden; Barry King, of State College; one daughter, Amy (Rob) Wittman, of Erie, and their children, Taylor and Kennedy. Also surviving are sisters, Sally McMurtrie, Linda Coble, and Marti Hendershot (Robert), all of Bellefonte.
There will be a graveside service held Wednesday, Oct. 21, 2009 at 11 a.m. at Centre County Memorial Park, College Township, with Pastor Duane Bardo officiating. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the charity of your choice. Arrangements are under the direction of Wetzler Funeral Service Inc, 206 N. Spring St., Bellefonte.
