Paula (Pixie) S. Kruszewski, a beacon of creativity and love, passed away peacefully on December 4, 2024, in State College, Pennsylvania. Born on May 19, 1946, in Indianapolis, Indiana, Paula’s warmth and vivacity left an indelible mark on everyone she met.
Paula’s journey through life was one of passion and purpose. After starting her studies at Indiana University, she went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Business from the University of Toledo, setting the stage for what would become her greatest joy in the professional realm: Paula’s Hallmark & Florist in Waterville, Ohio.
Beyond her business accomplishments, Paula was an avid game player, with a particular fondness for Bridge. She was an active member of both the Toledo Bridge Club and the State College Bridge Club, where her strategic mind and friendly competition were always welcome. Her interests were as varied as they were engaging, from playing tennis with friends to immersing herself in the world of the Waterville Playshop, where she indulged her love for singing and acting.
Paula’s creative spark shone brightly in her love for making greeting cards, a hobby that allowed her to express her artistry and thoughtfulness. She was also very involved in the Welcome Wagon in Toledo, Ohio, embodying the spirit of community and connection.
Her love for reading and cooking offered her and her loved ones countless hours of enjoyment and togetherness. Paula’s home was always filled with the aroma of delicious meals and the sound of laughter, as she cherished spending time with her family and friends.
Paula married Larry J. Kruszewski on December 26, 1965. He preceded her in death on July 25, 2015. Paula’s family was the cornerstone of her life. She is survived by her loving daughters, Michelle Dzyak (Paul), and Denise Calderbank (Brian); her cherished grandchildren, Alison and Brianna Dzyak; Fletcher, Gwendolyn, and Max Calderbank. She also leaves behind her dear sister, Elaine Richards, and her brother, Fred Chitwood.
Paula’s legacy is one of laughter, love, and the countless lives she touched with her generous spirit. Her memory will live on in the hearts of her family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing her. As we bid farewell to Paula S. Kruszewski, we celebrate a life well-lived and a woman dearly loved.
A celebration of life will be held in Spring 2025 in Toledo, Ohio
