Phoebe A. Borger, 82, of Moshannon, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, May 17, 2026. Born on January 17, 1944, in Pottersdale, she was the daughter of the late Andrew K. and Stella B. (Moore) Schmoke. On August 11, 1979, in Snow Shoe, she married the love of her life, Richard R. “Dick” Borger, who preceded her in death on May 1, 2012.

Phoebe graduated from West Branch High School. She worked for many years at Maytag Sewing in Philipsburg and later worked part-time cleaning the Mountaintop Medical Center. She was a devoted member of Moshannon United Methodist Church and faithfully served as the administrator of the Snow Shoe Food Bank.

Phoebe found joy in life’s simple pleasures. She loved tending to her flower gardens, picking berries, cooking, and gathering with family. Holidays were especially meaningful to her, as she cherished bringing everyone together around the table. Known for making some of the best homemade pies in the area, Phoebe shared her love through food and hospitality. She also treasured the car rides to her family homestead, where many fond memories were made.

Phoebe is survived by her two daughters, Anita L. McCloskey of Moshannon and Wanda G. Gates and her husband, Eric, of Milesburg; one stepson, Jerry R. Borger, and one stepdaughter, Vicki V. Bright, both of Virginia; two grandchildren, Jacob Gates and his wife, Kiana, and Zachary Gates; and two step-grandchildren, Matthew and Leah. We can not forget to mention her partner in crime, her granddog-Zeus.

In addition to her parents and beloved husband, Phoebe was preceded in death by her 15 siblings. She was the last surviving member of her generation.

Family and friends will be received on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Daughenbaugh Funeral Home, in Snow Shoe. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, at 11 a.m. at Moshannon United Methodist Church, with Pastor Catherine Dittman officiating. Burial will follow at Askey Cemetery.
