Susan Jean Houser, known affectionately as Sue to her friends and family, passed away peacefully on March 10, 2025, at Mount Nittany Medical Center in State College, PA, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on December 23, 1964, in Jamestown, NY, Sue was a beacon of light and joy to all who knew her.

Sue was a proud 1983 graduate of State College Area High School, where she formed many lifelong friendships and memories. Her passion for beauty and creativity led her to pursue a career in cosmetology, studying at South Hills in State College. Sue’s warm smile and caring nature were a perfect fit for her role as a sales associate at Riteaid, where she was not just an employee but a cherished colleague and friend.

Sue’s life was a testament to her loving, kind, and thoughtful spirit. Whether she was outdoors tending to her flower beds, embracing the thrill of finding treasures at yard sales, or savoring morning coffee with her daughter, Sue found happiness in the simple pleasures of life. Her love for the outdoors was only matched by the joy she took in spending quality time with her beloved grandchildren.

Family was the cornerstone of Sue’s world. She leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories with her daughter, Alison Houser and her fiancé, Brandon Decker; son, Mike Houser; daughter-in-law, Rebecca Houser; her devoted mother, Sharon Houtz; and her brother, Ronald Houtz. She was preceded in death by her son, Tyler Andrew Houser; father James Engeman; and step dad Edward Houtz.

Sue was a proud grandmother to five wonderful grandchildren: Jace, Bella, Liam, Maverick, and Bennett. Each of them held a special place in her heart, and she embraced every moment she had with them.

Sue’s presence could light up a room, and the impact she made on those around her was profound. She had a gift for making people feel loved and valued, always going out of her way to lend a listening ear or a helping hand. Her kindness extended beyond her immediate circle, touching the lives of many in her community.

As we bid farewell to Sue, we celebrate a life lived with unbounded love and selflessness. Her spirit will continue to live on through the memories she created with her family and friends. Though she may be gone from our sight, the essence of who she was—a loving mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and friend—will forever be etched in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing her.

Susan Jean Houser’s life was a beautiful journey that ended too soon, but the footprints she left behind will continue to guide and inspire us. Her family will hold her memory dear, cherishing the love and happiness she brought into their lives. Sue’s spirit will remain a guiding light, reminding us all to live with kindness and cherish every moment.

There will be a celebration of life at the convenience of the family.
