Penn State Berkey Creamery Introduces New Salted Caramel Cheesecake Flavor

For the first time in four years, a new ice cream flavor is hitting the Penn State Berkey Creamery’s shelves.

The campus creamery announced on Wednesday the addition of Salted Caramel Cheesecake to its ever-changing flavor lineup. The new variety will be available for a limited time through the end of December alongside a returning holiday flavor, Peppermint Stick.

As you might expect, Salted Caramel Cheesecake features a base of cheesecake ice cream mixed with a swirl of salted caramel and “pillows” of graham cracker cheesecake. Tom Davis, the Creamery’s manager, said the new flavor hopes to capture the essence of the upcoming holidays.

“We wanted to expand our line of cheesecake flavors — which includes strawberry and blueberry — with a new one fitting for the holiday season,” Davis said in a statement. “We hope customers craving rich and festive flavors will enjoy this taste of a salted caramel cheesecake in a bowl or cone!”

Salted Caramel Cheesecake is available for purchase in person in campus markets and at the Berkey Creamery, located in the Rodney A. Erickson Food Science Building along Curtin Road. The new flavor is also available through delivery, including nationwide shipping, on the Creamery’s website.

Salted Caramel Cheesecake is the latest entirely new variety to join the Creamery’s lineup since 2018’s White Out, a popcorn-flavored ice cream with white chocolate chips to honor Penn State’s premier football game theme. Before then, the Creamery introduced Monkey Business, Grilled Stickies and THON Golden Ribbon Ripple.

The Creamery is traditionally open from 7:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday, from 7:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Fridays, from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturdays and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Sundays. Operating hours may change as Penn State’s winter break approaches.
