Penn State football is hoping to continue its positive 2022 recruiting class momentum this upcoming Tuesday as four-star running back Nicholas Singleton is set to announce his verbal commitment at 5 pm.
Singleton, a Reading native, is rated the ninth-best running back in the 2022 class, the second-best prospect in the state and the No. 98 overall prospect in the class according to the 247 Network Composite rankings. The Governor Mifflin back has named Penn State, Notre Dame, Alabama, Texas A&M and Wisconsin in his final five. According to most recruiting expert,s the decision is expected to come down to either Notre Dame or Penn State.
In recent weeks the 247 Network’s crystal ball, which is collection of recruiting experts’ predictions on a pending commitment has swung between the Irish and Nittany Lions. As of Friday afternoon Penn State is a slight favorite to land Singleton’s services after seeing Notre Dame briefly appear to be the favorite in recent weeks.
Interestingly enough, according to the 247 Network, former Penn State head coach Bill O’Brien has been one of Alabama’s primary recruiters of Singleton.
Penn State’s 2022 class is currently ranked No. 8 in the nation by the 247 Network and the second best in the Big Ten. Singleton would be the eighth four-star commitment in a class that is currently 13 players deep after a Friday afternoon commitment. He would join rising quarterback Drew Allar and receiver Kaden Saunders as headliners in the class and give Penn State five of the top seven prospects from the Keystone State.
