Happy Valley Improv, State Theatre announce partnership

STATE COLLEGE — This fall, Happy Valley Improv will perform two shows a month, on the first Thursday and third Monday, at The Attic in the State Theatre.

“The State Theatre is a staple of the community here in State College, and we’re thrilled to be able to perform here,” said James Tierney, of Happy Valley Improv. “We have such a great relationship with Karen (Gregg), Kyrie (Hartzell) and the rest of the staff there, and our patrons love it.”

The first Thursday shows will feature groups such as Alone in a Church and Zipper Merge. The Monday shows will be a chance for the community to engage in and watch different improv styles and forms, with some shows supporting local charitable organizations.

“The Monday shows are really our chance to try some new things and expand our offerings,” said Nate Rufo, a Happy Valley Improv performer. “We’ll try new forms, put up some shows with only two improvisers, include community members as storytellers and participants, and maybe even do some short-form.”

‘It has been an absolute joy collaborating with Happy Valley Improv. We couldn’t be more thrilled to have them perform in The Attic twice a month,” said Kyrie Hartzell, assistant director of administration and development at the State Theatre. “We have received such positive feedback from patrons regarding their shows. The laughter and energy they create is contagious.’
