Way Fruit Farm Opening Downtown State College Store

Way Fruit Farm will soon offer its fresh fruit, apple cider donuts and much more at a new downtown State College store and cafe.

Jason and Megan Coopey, sixth-generation owners of the 150-year-old family farm on Halfmoon Valley Road in Halfmoon Township, said in a Facebook video on Wednesday night that they are getting ready to open a second store location at 252 E. Calder Way in State College. The two-level Calder Square storefront at the corner of McAllister Street was most recently home to Little Food Court.

An opening date has not yet been set as the Coopeys continue to prepare the space, get permit approvals and hire staff. They expect to open later this summer.

The new shop will have the farm’s fresh fruit, a bakery (including its popular apple cider donuts), grocery items and a cafe with lunch and dinner menus.

“What’s going to be coming is a version of us that’s a little bit smaller than you’re used to but will have all the main things that you’re used to having,” Jason Coopey said. “…We’re going to have all the things that make us special, including our soda wall and all of those crazy kind of things.”

Upstairs will have “very much a farmers market kind of feel,” while the downstairs will offer plenty of seating and more features.

“The reason we wanted to put in another store is we just felt we love Centre County and we think downtown State College is a very unique gem,” Coopey said. “We think we can bring something to add to it. For those of you that live close to downtown it would be an easier way for you to get our things.”

The farm is also getting ready to host its second annual Art in the Orchard event. The three-day festival is scheduled for July 14-16 and will feature artisans, live music, food trucks and fun for kids.
