One person died in a crash involving three tractor-trailers early Friday morning on Interstate 80 eastbound in Snow Shoe Township, according to the Snow Shoe Volunteer Fire Company.

Two other people were injured in the crash, which happened at about 5:30 a.m. near mile marker 145 just before the rest stop entrance. I-80 eastbound was closed between exits 133 and 147 for more than five hours, according to PennDOT.

According to state police at Rockview, 46-year-old Galdino Negreros-Lazaro, who was driving a 2015 Freightliner, failed to notice two tractor-trailers in front of him were traveling slow with hazard lights on because of an incline and rear-ended a 2014 Freightliner.

Negreros-Lazaro, of Wethersfield, Connecticut, was ejected from the vehicle, which continued on to rear-end the third truck, a 2018 Kenworth.

Negreros-Lazaro was pronounced dead at Mount Nittany Medical Center. A 37-year-old female passenger in Negreros-Lazaro’s truck and the 23-year-old male driver of the other Freightliner sustained minor injuries. The driver of the third truck was not injured.

A medical helicopter was unable to fly due to weather conditions. All patients were taken from the scene by ambulances.

Police said neither Negreros-Lazaro nor his passenger were wearing seat belts.

The crash resulted in oil, fuel and antifreeze on the road but did not endanger waterways, according to the fire company. A sand truck was brought to the scene.

The identity of the person who died and the cause of the crash have not yet been released.

State police, Snow Shoe Fire Company, Snow Shoe, Bellefonte and Moshannon Valley EMS, Mount Nittany Medical Center Ambulance, Centre County Emergency Management, PennDOT and S&R Towing responded to the scene.
