6th COVID-19 Death, 5 New Cases Reported in Centre County

The Pennsylvania Department of Health on Saturday reported one new COVID-19 death and five additional cases of the virus in Centre County.

The death is the sixth attributed to the virus in the county. Information about the patient was not immediately available. Previous reported deaths have occurred among individuals between the ages of 74 and 96. DOH had reported six total deaths in the county last week, but removed one from the count on Monday.

Centre County has now had 143 COVID-19 cases since the first was reported on March 20. In the past two weeks, Centre County has reported 26 new cases.

Statewide, there were 725 new cases reported on Saturday, bringing Pennsylvania’s total to 66,983. It was the 13th consecutive day the state has had fewer than 1,000 new cases.  Among total cases, 65,209 are confirmed and and 1,774 are probable.

DOH reports that 59 percent — 39,520 — of Pennsylvanians with the virus have recovered. 

‘Individuals who have recovered is determined using a calculation, similar to what is being done by several other states,’ according to the health department. ‘If a case has not been reported as a death, and it is more than 30 days past the date of their first positive test (or onset of symptoms) then an individual is considered recovered.’

Pennsylvania has had 5,096 deaths attributed to the virus, including 112 added to the count by DOH on Saturday. 

Among Centre County’s bordering counties, Huntingdon now has 227 cases, Mifflin has 57, Union has 52, Clinton has 49, Blair has 46 and Clearfield has 34.

A total of 321,469 patients in Pennsylvania have tested negative for COVID-19, including 1,836 people in Centre County. Across the state, 1,560 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, with 332 requiring a ventilator, as of noon on Saturday.
