Adewumi Sentenced For Stalking State High Student

David Adewumi has been sentenced to up to ten years in a state correctional institution for stalking a State College High School student.

Adewumi, 26, had initially pled no contest – which neither admits nor denies guilty – to two misdemeanor charges of stalking and harassment but asked to change his plea shortly before his originally scheduled sentencing earlier this week. According to a news release from the Centre County District Attorney’s Office, the court ultimately denied this request on Thursday.

He was sentenced to between two and ten years in jail, followed by a year of probation. He is forbidden from having contact with the minor he stalked and harassed.

The Lemont resident, State High graduate and former Penn State student was arrested in 2013 after a 17-year-old State High student reported him to police. According to the release, Adewumi relentlessly contacted her electronically. He began visiting the high school to see her, making her feel frightened and uncomfortable. When she blocked Adewumi on Facebook and told him she no longer wanted to hear from him, he began calling, texting and emailing her more frequently.

The release states that he visited the victim at the high school, her school bus stop and her workplace. Though she feared reporting him, she ultimately went to the police in April, leading to his arrest and ultimate conviction.

In the time between his arrest and sentencing, Adewumi was at the center of long series of incidents. He appeared before Borough Council in September 2013, claiming State College police were harassing him. He fled to California after being released on bail, where continued to electronically harass the victim. He was arrested in California and brought back to State College for trial.

While incarcerated in the Centre County Correctional Facility, he broke the sprinkler system in his cell, flooding the cell block. He was then restrained for “refusing to shower, lunging at a guard, covering a camera and attempting to assault a guard with fecal matter,” the release states. He claimed Centre County Correctional Institution personnel had sexually assaulted him, which he later admitted was false.

For these incidents, Adewumi was convicted of institutional vandalism and making false reports to law enforcements. With these additional convictions, Adewumi will spend a total of 3 to 15 years behind bars.

“The defendant’s obsession with harassing and tormenting his victims is matched only by his will to avoid the consequences,” Centre County District Attorney Stacy Parks Miller says in the release. “Instead of blaming everyone else for where he sits, he should take a 
long look within.”
