Bridge Repair Work to Begin Wednesday in Patton Township

Crews will begin preservation work on Wednesday for a bridge on Valley Vista Drive in Patton Township, resulting in traffic pattern changes, according to PennDOT.

The bridge spans Interstate 99 as motorists merge onto Valley Vista Drive via the Valley Vista/Park Forest exit at mile marker 69. The project will move the bridge’s status from ‘fair’ to ‘good.’

Half-width phasing will be used for the project, and starting Wednesday barriers will be in place to divert traffic crossing the bridge onto the shoulder until the first phase is complete. The second phase will shift to the shoulder and use of the travel lane will resume at that time.

Drivers also should be alert for short-term single-lane closures on I-99 northbound between mile markers 69 and 70 and I-99 southbound between mile markers 70 and 71. The closures will implemented only as needed to allow crews to complete work underneath the bridge.  Lane closures will be lifted at the end of each work day.

PennDOT expects the project to be completed by mid-August.

Overall work includes includes approach slab and strip seal replacement; concrete repairs to the deck, piers and abutments; painting of the steel structure; approach paving; guide rail installation; and pavement marking. HRI, Inc. of State College, is the contractor for the $2.2 million project.

The 377-feet long bridge was built in 1970 and and is traveled by more than 4,100 vehicles daily.
