BU: Patrick Chambers to Become Penn State Men’s Basketball Coach

Boston University men’s basketball coach Patrick Chambers has agreed to join the Nittany Lions as the Penn State men’s basketball head coach, BU reported on its website Friday.

The Associated Press and GoPSUSports.com, the Penn State athletic department’s official website, both have confirmed the hiring of Chambers.

‘In the wake of Chambers’ move, which comes just four weeks after he signed a contract extension through the 2015-16 season, BU has appointed Brian Daly, formerly associate head coach, to the position of interim head coach,’ the BU website reads. ‘The university will launch a nationwide search for a replacement.’

Chambers, then, appears set to be Ed DeChellis’ successor at Penn State. DeChellis announced his resignation last week and is to become the head basketball coach at the U.S. Naval Academy.

Chambers has been at BU for two years but is a son of Pennsylvania, according to the BU website. He played basketball for Philadelphia University in the 1990s before becoming a coach.

In Boston, according to BU, he earned famed for his ‘passion, his seemingly infinite energy and his ability to inspire his players.

‘During the 2009-2010 season, he propelled the Terriers to the America East finals for the first time since 2003, stamping their season with a 21-14 record,’ the BU website reads. ‘It was BU’s first 20-win season since 2004.’
