The Collegiate Horseman’s Association at Penn State and the Penn State Equine Research Team will co-host an open house of their horse farms and facilities on from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday.
The fifth annual open house will give community members and visitors an opportunity to meet some of the university’s 70 horses. It will be hosted at the “Old Barn”, which is directly across Park Avenue from Beaver Stadium
The barns are typically closed to the public, but CHAPS is giving access to them in conjunction with Celebrate Agriculture Day prior to the Penn State football game against Indiana. Normally, these horses are used in classes for the equine science minor, and they also expect to breed 20 foals per year.
“The open house is important because it allows the general public, especially those with no agricultural background, to see what Penn State students in the equine science program are doing,” CHAPS President Rachel Reaser said.
The open house will give Penn State football fans an interesting opportunity to meet some horses prior to the Nittany Lions’ 3:30 p.m. kickoff against Indiana at Beaver Stadium.
