DeJ Loaf will kick off the performance year for the Penn State Student Programming Association (SPA) at the Nittany Block Party, a free show put on as a culmination of Welcome Week and a kick-off for the new school year at the University Park campus. The concert will be Friday, Aug. 26 on Pollock Road and festivities start at 5:30 p.m., though the main act won’t be on until a little later.
DeJ Loaf, a female rapper from Detroit, is an up-an-coming act best known for her song “Try Me,” which peaked at No. 45 on the Billboard charts and is certified gold, thanks in part to an Instagram shoutout from Drake. More recently, DeJ Loaf released an EP titled “AndSeeThatsTheThing,” featuring tracks “Back Up” featuring Big Sean and “Hey There” featuring Future.
DeJ Loaf also was featured on Eminem’s track “Detroit vs. Everybody” and she opened for Nicki Minaj during her “Pinkprint Tour” last year.
The show will be set up outside in front of the HUB and will feature a student showcase preceding DeJ Loaf’s performance including DJ duo Argenzio x DeRóiste. In addition to the music there will be carnival games, crafts, booths, and free food all courtesy of SPA.
This is the first show in a year that is sure to be full of great music from SPA. Last year the organization was responsible for bringing big name acts like The Chainsmokers, Cold War Kids, and Smallpools to perform on campus as well as speakers including Bill Nye and Abby Wambach.
