Central PA 4thFest will celebrate Independence Day on Tuesday, and with it comes the fifth annual Parade of Heroes.

State College Police said on Tuesday that several street closures and detours will be in place for the parade, which begins at 2 p.m.

The parade will form near the State College Municipal Building, 243 S. Allen St., and step off from in front of the building. From there it will follow this route:

– North on South Allen Street to East College Avenue
– East on East College Avenue to Shortlidge Road
– North on Shortlidge Road to Pollock Road
– East on Pollock Road to Bigler Road
– North on Bigler Road to Curtin Road
– East on Curtin Road and ending near the Bryce Jordan Center

Streets on the parade route will be closed to vehicle traffic from approximately 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Parking also will be restricted along the route.

A detour route will be in effect, and westbound traffic on East College Avenue will be detoured onto University Drive.

The Parade of Heroes celebrates the holiday and honors local heroes, nominated by community members, who are role models and have provided support and service to others through self-sacrifice.

Heroes selected to participate in the parade receive a commemorative plaque and are transported individually in vehicles through the parade route with their names and hometowns highlighted on banners alongside the vehicle. Nominees not selected to be in the parade receive honorable mentions and a certificate thanking them for their service to their community and country.
