Dodgers Draft Penn State Pitcher Justin Hagenman

The Los Angeles Dodgers selected Penn State starting pitcher Justin Hagenman No. 704 overall in the 23rd round of the Major League Baseball draft on Wednesday.

Hagenman, who recently wrapped up his junior season for the Nittany Lions, is the sixth player drafted under head coach Rob Cooper. Last year, fellow right-handed pitcher Sal Biasi was selected in the 11th round (No. 330 overall) by the Kansas City Royals.

In 14 starts this season, Hagenman posted a 4.60 ERA and a 3-7 record as Penn State struggled to a last-place showing in the Big Ten. He tallied 190 strikeouts his first three years on campus.

Hagenman earned Big Ten All-Freshman recognition in 2016 after leading the team in starts and wins, while also being named to the Louisville Slugger Freshman All-America team.

It’s not yet known whether Hagenman, an economics major from Voorhees, N.J., will return for his senior season or elect to begin his pro career in the Dodgers’ minor league system this summer.
