Down Wire Results in Nearly 800 with Lost Power for Short Period

A down wire caused nearly 800 area customers to lose power for about 45 minutes Monday afternoon while crews worked to clean up the wire.

A West Penn Power rep said a down wire near the old Ponderosa located at the intersection of South Atherton Street and University Drive left 769 customers without power. The first report came in around 2:45 p.m., he said. By 3:30, all power returned.

It is unknown what caused the wire to fall.

More than 600 customers are without power in College and Harris Townships after an outage occurred Monday afternoon, according to FirstEnergy.

StateCollege.com first became aware of the outages around 2:30 p.m. Monday.

The map accompanying this post shows the areas impacted. It’s not immediately known what caused the outage. One report indicated power will not be restored until at least 5 p.m., according to West Penn Power.

A call placed to West Penn Power was not immediately returned.
