A Ferguson Township woman is facing a litany of charges after police say she went on a theft and burglary spree.
Zelia Fogelsanger, 18, was initially charged with felony criminal trespass on May 9 after she allegedly twice tried to enter a Pine Grove Mills residence. Ferguson Township police said at the time that more charges would be pending in connection with a series of thefts and break-ins in the area.
Those charges were filed Wednesday, and police said Fogelsanger is charged with or suspected of thefts dating back to last fall.
In September, numerous thefts were reported from a girls locker room at State College Area High School. Police said Fogelsanger was in the locker room, at times when she should not have been, when the thefts of clothing, shoes and cash occurred and while other students were in the gymnasium.
On Feb. 4, Fogelsanger allegedly stole more than $7,000 in property belonging to 13 people from a Ferguson Township horse barn, where she had started taking riding lessons three weeks earlier but did not return after the thefts occurred. Fogelsanger admitted to taking some saddles and bridles, police said.
State College police responded on Feb. 6 for a report of a theft of live bird from Finatics Aquarium & Pet Center in the Nittany Mall. After police issued a news release with a surveillance photo, multiple people reportedly identified Fogelsanger as the pictured suspect. She returned the bird on Feb. 9
Patton Township police arrested Fogelsanger on March 30 for the alleged theft of $1,429 in merchandise from Kohl’s, 275 Colonnade Boulevard.
On April 3, Ferguson Township police assisted Indiana Borough police with a report of a stolen dog. The owner reported that someone broke into her residence and stole a Husky. Indiana police said Fogelsanger had come to the residence a week earlier to look at the dog but did not buy it. Ferguson Township police made contact with Fogelsanger but she refused a search of her residence at the time.
A Ferguson Township couple reported on April 15 that more than $7,000 in property — including coins and bills, diamond rings and prescription medications — had gone missing from their West Whitehall Road home while they were away for the weekend. The couple told police that they had recently met Fogelsanger and she was caring for their horses while they were away. Fogelsanger and her mother were the only people outside of close family who knew they would be away, according to the complaint.
Fogelsanger allegedly admitted to the burglary and theft when interviewed by police.
On April 22, police spoke to a Lois Lane resident who said an iPad, money from his wallet and some prescription medication were missing from his home. The resident said he had locked all of his doors except a side garage door. Fogelsanger later admitted to taking the iPad but said her memory was ‘foggy,’ because she took cough medicine combined with oxycodone, police said.
She also told police the iPad was in her closet with another that she had stolen in a separate incident, according to the complaint.
The second iPad belonged to a Rosemont Drive resident, who on May 10 reported that sometime overnight April 12-13 the device and about $80 in cash went missing from her house. The resident said she may have accidentally left the door unlocked after letting her dog out overnight and in the morning found the door was ajar.
On May 9, a Bradford Court resident reported that two Ruger LCP .380 handguns were stolen from his vehicles. Fogelsanger turned over one of the guns to police upon her initial arrest. Police located a man in Karthaus who said Fogelsanger gave the other gun to him, which he handed over to investigators.
Fogelsanger is charged with four felony counts each of burglary and criminal trespass, three felony counts each of theft and receiving stolen property, and three misdemeanor counts each of theft and receiving stolen property.
She was arraigned on Wednesday before District Judge Casey McClain and remains in the Centre County Correctional Facility.
A preliminary hearing on the new charges is scheduled for May 30.
