State Rep. Mike Hanna, D-Lock Haven, has introduced legislation that would name a Centre County highway in honor of Vietnam veterans.

House Bill 2565 would name a portion of state Route 192, from Centre Hall to Miles Township, the Central Pennsylvania Vietnam Veterans Memorial Highway.

The memorial highway would be between Route 192’s intersections with Route 144 and Route 477.

Hanna said in a release that 300,000 Pennsylvanians served in the Vietnam War and that many veterans felt ‘uncelebrated and shunned’ when they returned home.

“Every Pennsylvanian who fought in the war deserves our thanks,” Hanna said. “Over 3,000 Pennsylvanians gave their lives in Vietnam, and I believe this memorial highway is an important step in honoring their service and their sacrifice.”

The bill has been referred to the House Transportation Committee.
