The Pennsylvania Department of Health on Saturday reported 20 new COVID-19 cases in Centre County, bringing its total to 462 since the first was reported on March 20.
The increase, which is the largest in Centre County since the onset of the pandemic, is likely due in part to Penn State reporting test results to DOH. On Friday, the university updated its COVID-19 dashboard to show that testing of University Park students over the previous seven days yielded 27 positive cases — 14 symptomatic and 13 asymptomatic. All are in isolation, according to Penn State.
Seventeen of the county’s 20 new cases were in the State College or University Park zip codes.
Because Penn State’s COVID-19 dashboard is only updated weekly, it’s not clear when the results were received or when they were reported to the health department. Some student cases may already have been included in DOH daily reports.
The county also added 412 new negative test results, according to DOH. A total of 13,441 patients in Centre County have tested negative for the virus.
In the past two weeks, the county has added 71 cases of the virus.
