The other five candidates in the Democratic primary for Pennsylvania Lieutenant Governor couldn’t have been happy for someone with the name recognition of Jay Paterno to enter the race last week. Their displeasure was likely confirmed Wednesday when Paterno finished ahead of all his competitors in the latest Harper Poll.
Seventeen percent of those polled supported Paterno 17. Close behind is Mark Critz with 16 perceent. However, with 48% still undecided, it’s anyone’s race of course. But the poll at least proves that Paterno is already in the thick of things after only one week on the campaign trail and with three months to go until the election.
“I felt like the best place for me to make a big impact on the state of Pennsylvania, and for the people of Pennsylvania, in a positive way was to run for Lieutenant Governor,” Paterno said when announcing his campaign. “If I’m fortunate enough to get on the ballot and win the primary and the election next fall, then I felt like this was the role that I’m meant to be in right now.”
The former assistant Penn State football coach also spoke at THON over the weekend.
The poll was conducted February 22-23 and surveyed 501 likely voters. The margin of error is +/-4.38%.
