Multi-Vehicle Crash Causes Hourslong Closure on Part of I-80 in Centre County

A medical helicopter was called to the scene and a 10-mile stretch of Interstate 80 in Centre and Clinton counties was closed for nearly seven hours after a crash involving multiple tractor-trailers Monday evening.

I-80 westbound was closed from about 5 p.m. until shortly before midnight between exit 173 at Lamar in Clinton County and exit 163 at Jacksonville Road/Howard in Centre County, according to PennDOT and Centre County 9-1-1.

The crash happened around mile 169 in Marion Township and involved three trucks, according to a post by Centre County Emergency Alerts and Information. A fuel leak was also reported.

Emergency responders from Centre and Clinton county were on the scene. A LifeFlight helicopter arrived at 5:24 p.m. and departed at about 6 p.m., according to the post.

Traffic was diverted onto Route 64/Nittany Valley Drive during the closure.
