Calendar spring is set to arrive this weekend, but nature can’t be held to strict deadlines. Still, the Nor’easter expected to bring snow to parts of the Mid-Atlantic and New England is unlikely to have much impact in the State College area.

Accuweather Senior Meteorologist Dan Pydynowski says the area can expect clouds to develop and thicken Saturday afternoon, with light snow accumulating around an inch Saturday night into Sunday.

‘In terms of snow we’re going to see overall this is not going to be a major event for the State College area,’ Pydynowski says. ‘We’re certainly going to miss out on the heaviest snow, which will probably be further northeast up into parts of New England by the time this storm really strengthens.’

Roads and other paved surfaces may just stay wet, he adds.

Eastern New England looks likely to bear the brunt of the storm, Pydynowski explains. Portland, Maine, south through Boston could see 6-10 inches of snow, while further south and west it looks like a general accumulation of 1-3 inches. New York City should be on the lower end of accumulations, with higher accumulations possible just to the east on Long Island

Temperatures in the State College will still feel more wintry than springlike heading into next week before warming up a bit.

‘Monday and Tuesday highs will probably still be in the 40s, and we probably recover into the 50s by the middle of next week,’ Pydynowski says.
