Bellefonte READS will host a kickoff event for ‘One Book, One Bellefonte’ from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday (Feb. 21) in the main lobby of Bellefonte Area High School.
The selection for this year’s community reading initiative is ‘Refugee’ by Alan Gratz. Attendees at Thursday’s event will be able to pick up a free copy of the book and participate in a variety of activities.
Those who are unable to attend can still get a free copy of ‘Refugee’ the week of Feb. 25-29 at the Centre County Library, 200 N. Allegheny St.
‘Refugee’ tells the stories of a Jewish boy living in 1930s Nazi Germany, a Cuban girl trying to escape unrest in 1994, and a Syrian boy in 2015 whose homeland is torn apart by violence. The book follows their harrowing journeys and the connections that tie them together.
Since the book contains mature themes, four alternate books that connect to the themes in ‘Refugee’ also will be offered.
