Penn State Increases Security After Invasion of Privacy Reports

University Police have increased patrols and surveillance after two reports last week that an unknown individual photographed or filmed students in a residence hall shower.

The reported incidents occurred at 9:40 p.m. on April 16 and 12:45 a.m. on April 17 at Thompson Hall in the West Halls residence area.

Police have been investigating since Sunday morning and have met with students who live in the building to gather more information, according to a university news release. An auxiliary officer is stationed in the dorm now as well. Increased police patrols at the residence hall will continue through the end of the spring semester.

Penn State Residence Life staff and a police representative have held meetings to discuss the issue with student residents.

“The safety and security of our students is our No. 1 priority and we in Residence Life take this situation very seriously,” said Mark Rameker, senior director of Residence Life. “We will continue to do all that we can to ensure the safety of students living in our residence halls. We encourage anyone who may see something suspicious to report it immediately.”
