The Penn State Interfraternity Council/Panhellenic Dance Marathon has raised $9.56 million this year, THON organizers announced shortly after 4 p.m. Sunday. That breaks last year’s total by more than $1 million — and sets a new record for the student-run philanthropy.

THON 2011 ended at 4 p.m. after 46 hours. Proceeds benefit the Four Diamonds Fund, which supports pediatric-cancer research and treatment.
