Philadelphia Phillies to Host THON Night

If you love the Phillies, THON, or are just looking for something fun and philanthropic to do in July, THON has an event that will cater to all three. The Philadelphia Phillies will host their annual THON night on Thursday, July 21 when the team takes on the Miami Marlins.

The MLB is a continued supporter of the cause, and both the Phillies and the Pittsburgh Pirates usually host a game each summer where a portion of ticket sales benefit THON. There’s even the occasional celebrity appearance — last year James Franklin, joined by the Nittany Lion, threw out the first pitch in Philly, right down the middle with a little heat behind it.

The game is scheduled to begin at 7:05 p.m. baring weather but not traffic on 95. You can buy a ticket that supports THON here and all THONers will be in a designated section of the stadium so you’ll probably see at least a little blue and white. Prices range from $20 to $40 per ticket and 50 percent of each THON ticket sold will benefit the Four Diamonds Fund and the fight against childhood cancer.

With the eventual dissolution of canning, THON will rely more and more on alternate fundraising events like baseball nights to raise money. Although it may not be the best baseball ever played, THON night offers the seemingly infinite population of those who live “just outside of Philly” the chance to support THON during the summer while also enjoying some baseball and, of course, Crab Fries.
